Episode 3: Here I Am: The Story of Isaac

Listen Later

In this sermon, we examine Genesis 22:1-8, where God tests Abraham by asking him to sacrifice his son, Isaac. Abraham’s response, “Here I am,” reveals a heart fully surrendered to God’s calling. This moment reflects a larger biblical pattern of faith and obedience seen in figures like Moses, Samuel, and Isaiah, who also responded with “Hineni” (Here I am) when God called them.

Through this passage, we explore two key themes:

  1. God Knows Your Name – Abraham had followed God for years, but it wasn’t until this moment that God called him by name. Scripture reminds us that God calls each of us personally, not as a number, but as His beloved.
  2. Cultivating a “Here I Am” Attitude – True faith requires surrender. Abraham trusted that God would provide, even in the most difficult test of his life. His willingness to say “Here I am” challenges us to consider how we respond to God’s call in our own lives.

Reflection questions for personal or group study:

    • What does Abraham’s response teach us about faith and trust in God?
    • Why do you think God called Abraham by name for the first time in Genesis 22:1?
    • How does the concept of “Hineni” apply to our daily walk with God?
    • What are some things in your life that might challenge your willingness to say “Here I am” to God?
    • How does Abraham’s trust in God’s provision encourage us in our own faith journey?
    • ...more
