1 Corinthians 12:7-11 ESV
7 To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. 8   For to one is given
through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to
the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, 10 to
another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between
spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 All these are
empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.
Big Idea: Spiritual gifts were never meant to highlight gifted people—they were meant to reveal the
Gift-Giver.
Main Point: Every believer is gifted by the Spirit Vs. 7 To each is given the manifestation of the
Spirit for the common good.
"The gifts which the Lord has bestowed upon His Church are not intended to remain unemployed,
but ought to be applied to the common advantage of all" -John Calvin
 To each is GIVEN. Is given" (δίδοται – didotai)  Pronunciation DIDO-ME
o This verb is in the present passive indicative.
 That means- Present: God is continually giving. Passive: We receive rather
than earn. Indicative: This is a statement of fact, not a command.

 The gifts are supernatural: “the manifestation of the Spirit”.
A manifestation of the Spirit is a supernatural work of the Holy Spirit that makes God's presence evident

through a believer to strengthen, encourage, and build up the body of Christ.
 The Spirit is the star of this passage, not the gifts.
o The Spirit distributes them as He wills: Vs. 8   For to one is given through the Spirit
the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the
same Spirit. Vs. 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by
the one Spirit.
 In 1 Corinthians 12:7–11, the word Spirit; (Greek: πνεῦμα, pneuma) appears
six times.

Practical Takeaway:
Ask for more- 1 Corinthians 14:1 Pursue love, and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts, especially
that you may prophesy.

John 15:1-17
1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. 2 Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he
takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. 3 Already you are
clean because of the word that I have spoken to you. 4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot
bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. 5 I am the vine;
you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me
you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not abide in me, he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and
the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. 7 If you abide in me, and my words abide in
you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much
fruit and so prove to be my disciples. 9 As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love.
10 If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's
commandments and abide in his love. 11 These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you,
and that your joy may be full. 12 This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.
13 Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. 14 You are my friends if
you do what I command you. 15 No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his
master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known
to you. 16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and
that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you. 17
These things I command you, so that you will love one another.

Galatians 5:15-26

15 But if you bite and devour one another, watch out that you are not consumed by one another.
16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the
desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for
these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. 18 But if you
are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19 Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual
immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger,
rivalries, dissensions, divisions, 21 envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you,
as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23
gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. 24 And those who belong to
Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live by the Spirit, let
us also keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another,
envying one another.

Question: What does it mean to be Spirit Filled?
Big Idea: The Holy Spirit does not merely make us supernatural; It is to make you more like
Jesus in character first and acts of power second.
● The Fruit and Gifts of the Spirit become part of a redeemed and transformed identity.
○ 2 Corinthians 5:17 (ESV) "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new
creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come."

Fruit is grown. Gifts are given.
The Fruit of the Spirit is the fruit of CHARACTER.
1. Fruit reveals the nature of the tree. Jesus repeatedly taught that what grows on a tree
reveals what kind of tree it is. Matt 7:17 So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the
diseased tree bears bad fruit.
● THREE TREES— You will know the ROOT by the FRUIT. Roots are
○ Genesis 2:8–9: Matthew 7:17 So, every healthy tree bears good
fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit.
○ Psalm 1:3: He is like a tree, planted by streams of water, that yields
its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does,
he prospers.
○ Revelation 22: Then the angel showed me the river of the water of
life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the

Lamb 2 through the middle of the street of the city; also, on either
side of the river, the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit,
yielding its fruit each month.

The primary evidence of the Holy Spirit is not what we can do but who we are becoming.

Key Ideas:
1. Fruit is not manufactured, it is grown by tending that which brings life.
2. Fruit will be consumed.



Practical Takeaway: This week survey the tree that is your life. Where is it planted? How is it
being tended? What needs to happen for it to begin to thrive and produce fruit?

everyone what is the plan of the mystery hidden for ages in God, who created all things, 10 so
that through the church the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known to the rulers and
authorities in the heavenly places. 11 This was according to the eternal purpose that he has
realized in Christ Jesus our Lord, 12 in whom we have boldness and access with confidence
through our faith in him. 13 So I ask you not to lose heart over what I am suffering for you,

which is your glory.

Big Idea: The Church is not merely doing God's work; it is God's masterpiece on display,
revealing His wisdom, grace, and power to the world.
Key Verse: Vs. 10 so that through the church the manifold wisdom of God might now be made
known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly places.
2 Corinthians 10:3–5:

"For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the
weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds.
We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and

take every thought captive to obey Christ."

Key Word: What Is "Manifold Wisdom? The Greek word is: πολυποίκιλος (polupoikilos)
A compound word:
● poly = many
● poikilos = varied, diverse, multi-colored
Vs. 1 Of this gospel I was made a minister according to the gift of God's grace, which was
given me by the working of his power.
● The Gospel: The Gospel is the good news that Jesus died for our sins, rose from the
dead, and offers forgiveness and eternal life to all who trust in Him.

● A Minister: A minister is anyone who serves Christ by helping others grow in Him.
● Of Grace and Working in Power: A minister of grace is a believer entrusted with God's
gifts, serving others so they can experience God's love, truth, and transforming power.
○ A community transformed by the power of God is marked by restored families,
healed hearts and bodies, changed lives, united people, and a tangible awareness
of the presence and power of Jesus.

Changing Communities

The Church changes culture when ordinary people, transformed by Jesus, faithfully represent

Him in every sphere of influence.

grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ's gift.

Key Word: Maturity
Key Idea: The goal of the church is not attendance, but rather maturity.
Key Point: The destination of salvation is not heaven—it is Christlikeness.

Unity: When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. 
The Spirit was poured out on a people who were:
 together physically
 unified spiritually
 waiting expectantly
 obediently gathered

PSALM 133:1-3

1 Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity 2 It is like the precious oil
on the head, running down on the beard, on the beard of Aaron, running down on the collar
of his robes! 3 It is like the dew of Hermon, which falls on the mountains of Zion!
For there the Lord has commanded the blessing, life forevermore.

the power of the Holy Spirit.

witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.
1 Corinthians 2:4-5 My speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in
demonstration of the Spirit and of power, 5 so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men
but in the power of God.
