Michael is an alumnus of ESR, earning an MA in 1978 and going on to graduate with a Ph.D. from Harvard University in 1986. He then joined the faculty of Earlham College in the Religion Department where he has had an illustrious 30-year career of teaching, writing, and speaking at a variety of groups on wide-ranging topics in religion, Quakerism, and inter-faith dialogue.
His books include Qur'an in Conversation (Baylor University Press, 2014), Engaging Scripture: Encountering the Bible with Early Friends (Friends United Press; Earlham Press, 2005), and Silence and Witness: Quaker Spirituality (Orbis Press, 2004).
