The term "Rapture" began to be used in English religious texts in the 17th and 18th centuries as scholars influenced various interpretations and beliefs about the end times. 

The Rapture concept gained prominence in the 19th century, particularly through the teachings of John Nelson Darby, who was instrumental in developing this theological framework in defining biblical prophecies literally and that the Rapture will occur before a period of tribulation on Earth, allowing believers to escape impending hardships.
