Episode 30: The Athletes Guide to Hydration Science with Dr. Oliver Barley

Today I am joined by Dr. Oliver Barley. Dr Barley has a Ph.D. in Exercise and Sport Science, a Masters of Science in Sports Science and a Bachelor of Science majoring in you guessed it Exercise and Sport Science. 

Oliver is renowned as one of the most knowledgeable academics when it comes to exercise physiology, combat sports, hydration, thermal stress, and performance testing. Not only that Oliver is an athlete himself, competing in kickboxing from a young age and also holding a purple belt in Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu. 

Out of everything Oliver is great at, there is one field that he is exceptionally great at, hydration, and that is what I going to talk to him about in this episode. 

We are going to break down what exactly is hydration, explain why it is far more complex than what you think, discuss the different fluid compartments in the body, how fluid moves between these, why urine may not be the best measure of hydration, and finish off with practical tips to help you get the most out of your performance.
