Markets & News: Signal to Noise with Jim Wiesemeyer

Episode 33: The Metal Tariffs That Won't Go Away

Listen Later

Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act allows the president to place trade restrictions in the interest of national security. President Donald Trump last year used Section 232 to impose protective tariffs on imported steel and aluminum. In this week's DC Signal to Noise, Jim Wiesemeyer and John Herath look at the use of the Section 232 tariffs and why the steel and aluminum tariffs have continued even though the NAFTA negotiations that triggered the tariffs have concluded.  Those continuing tariffs and the threat of using Section 232 on auto imports clouds all of the current trade talks with China, Japan, the EU, Canada, Mexico and more.
