By all accounts, Kelvin Sampson is a coach’s coach. Coming up he learned the game from his father (who was his high school coach), and where he also learned work ethic. He worked his way up from small school sidelines to running powerhouse programs. With 42 seasons, 3 Final Fours, twice the AP Coach of the Year and now in Houston, Coach Sampson has found a once prominent program and an opportunity to construct a team in his image.

As he tells Penny, he’s learned a few things over the years, and the constant has been doing things with a clear vision. Two of the key building blocks of any program are the coach’s philosophy and culture. For Coach Sampson he pushes his players to be accountable and prepare as hard as possible. And the results are not only wins but a dominant brand of basketball.
