Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for 10 to 34-year-olds and the rate of suicide in the United States has increased 33% from 2000 to 2017. As the current global pandemic of COVID-19 continues, there has been an exponential increase in calls to suicide hotlines. This is the time to talk about suicide.
Jonathan Youssef welcomes friend and former colleague, Laura, to Candid to share her personal experience of losing her mother to suicide. She tells her story to help people understand the reality of suicide, the impact of suicide on those left behind, and to provide words of love and hope to those who are struggling with suicidal thoughts.
Jonathan also talks with seasoned counselor, Rand Eberhard, who has walked with countless people through their struggles with addiction and suicidal thoughts. Rand offers wisdom on how to respond if we are struggling ourselves with suicide or if we are walking alongside someone considering death by suicide.
If you are personally struggling with suicidal thoughts, please reach out to someone. If you are involved in a church, please contact your pastor. If you are not connected with a church, please call the national suicide prevention hotline – 1-800-273-8255. That’s 1-800-273-TALK– https://suicidepreventionlifeline.org/
