On today's episode of The Momlife Mindset Podcast, I had the personal joy of interviewing Mindy Court.
Mindy grew up in MN, went to college in WI and currently lives in La Crosse, WI with her husband Josh and their kids, Pearl (14) and Cam (10). She has been a teacher off and on since 2005 and has taught both middle school and elementary school. Mindy was lucky to stay home for four years while their youngest was a baby and being a stay at home mama was both fulfilling and difficult. She also started her wellness business (Fit Mind, Healthy Body) at that time as a way to enjoy her passion of fitness and nutrition while staying connected to other women and bringing in some income.
Once Cam was in school, their family decided that Mindy would head back to the teaching world. She started teaching full time at a local elementary school that was a year round, community school. Most of the students received free and/or reduced lunch and the families in general struggled at home with addiction, prostitution, abuse, neglect, etc. The children were these beautiful little beings facing adult problems and it was very sad. She thoroughly enjoyed working there and being a safe, loving, and consistent adult in their lives but it did take a toll. Mindy often came home mentally and physically exhausted and had zero in the tank left for her own family. Throw in Covid, having to teach virtually and the worry about students at home and her anxiety revved to an all time high. Mindy also decided to majorly scale back her wellness business because she couldn't put in the time or effort the women deserved and that was really hard for her.
In May, she made the decision to apply for a transfer to her neighborhood school, her son's school, and a school she has gotten to know well throughout the years. She is excited to make the move and to be on the same schedule as her children. She is hoping to spend more time actually focused on teaching and her own family once she walks in the door after school. Pearl is heading to high school and Cam has one year left of elementary school and Mindy can't wait to be more present for them! She also may be able to actively lead other women in healthy habits groups again, we will see!
