Understanding and recognising these challenges is an important part of understanding the Entrepreneurial ScaleUp System (ESUS) and how it can address them.  Most of the challenges we face in scaling our businesses are common across businesses and sectors. 

According to the latest government statistics, there are 6 million private sector SMEs within the UK, of which 5.7 million (96%) have fewer than 10 employees, and less than 1% more than 50 – and these figures a similar around the world.

So why is it that just 4% of UK businesses can scale beyond 10 employees? And, more importantly, what is preventing the average business owner from continuing their ScaleUp Journey reaching 20–25 employees or 50 plus?

Kevin Brent takes us through some of the key aspects followed by some great insights from Chris Cook, the founder of Chantry Group, the leading Franchise Growth Agency in the UK.
