Aileen was born in Mexico City and moved to the United States at the age of 12. Her experience living in the Guatemalan highlands opened her eyes and her heart to dedicating the rest of her career into social justice, human rights and her main passion, feminism. She currently serves as Regional Coordinator for Women´s Rights at Oxfam in Latin America and the Caribbean. Her life has also not been easy, and she is also someone who calls herself a ´cancer mom,´ since for the last four years she has been in this journey with her daughter Maria who has been in treatment for a brain tumor and from who she learns how to be a better human being. Aileen is a strong woman and girls advocate, values deeply intersectionality, the importance of community and friendship and wants to normalize seeing the motherhood journey as one where extreme pain and love are always coexisting.
