Teté Rodríguez-Casillas nació y creció en la Ciudad de México, Chilanga de corazón. Su constante búsqueda y carácter inquieto la llevaron en un viaje exploratorio de más de un año por México, Centro y Sudamérica el cual reafirmó su gusto por la música folclórica. También es miembra fundadora de Krewe de Mayahuel, la cual busca difundir la cultura mexicana en Nueva Orleans. En su tienda en línea tiene como objetivo compartir su cultura en Estados Unidos, trabajando de la mano con los artesanos, conocerlos personalmente y apoyarlos pagando un precio justo y digno por sus creaciones. Tete cree firmemente en el trabajo en conjunto y en el apoyo mutuo.

Teté Rodríguez-Casillas was born in Mexico City, Chilanga at heart. Her constant search and restless character led her on an exploratory journey of more than a year through Mexico, Central and South America which reaffirmed her love for folk music. She is also a founding member of Krewe de Mayahuel, which seeks to spread Mexican culture in New Orleans. In her online store she aims to share her culture in the United States and create a partnership with the artisans by paying a fair and worthy price for their creations. Lorena Sullivan is an example of how dedication and deep understanding of your area of expertise are a strong foundation in a technical career. She is also a role model and mentor to younger Latin women looking to start or develop a career in the STEM field. To say she has a solid career and the technical knowledge to back it up is an understatement. Lorena Sullivan is from Ecuador, and her love for STEM took her to study Chemical Engineering in the University of South Florida. After graduation, Lorena became a process engineer in TECO, a power plant in Florida. During these six years, she became a Subject Matter Expert in Gasification, understanding plant operations, start up, shutdowns and testing. With this expertise she became a Test Director. She mentored younger engineers and became a key technical advisor in the organization. She has traveled all over the world and is requested by companies to troubleshoot and discuss technical issues. Lorena is currently a Process Director as she rose through the ranks of the organization. Born and raised in CDMX, María Albarrán graduated from UNAM with a Bachelor of International Relations. In 2008 she moved to NOLA to re-open the Mexican Consulate. She has focused on finding ways to help the community and promote the culture and traditions of Mexico. She is a board member of EHCCO and a founder of Krewe de Mayahuel.

María Albarrán nació y creció en CDMX y es Licenciada en Relaciones Internacionales por la UNAM. En el 2008, se trasladó a Nueva Orleans para la reapertura del Consulado Mexicano. Su enfoque es el encontrar formas de apoyar a la comunidad y promover la cultura y tradiciones de México.  María también es miembro de la junta directiva de EHCOO y miembro fundador de Krewe de Mayahuel.

Ana Mac Naught is an immigrant, feminist, mother, friend, and wife. Ana currently works as the Census Coordinator with Houston in Action, which is a collective impact organization committed to removing systemic barriers to civic engagement in the Greater Houston Area.

Ana has had the privilege to live, study and work in Latin America, Europe, Asia and Africa. This experience has shaped her understanding and commitment to centering equity in her personal and professional life. She tries to live up to those values by learning more about herself, building community, teaching her kids and keeping her ancestors close to her heart. Aileen was born in Mexico City and moved to the United States at the age of 12. Her experience living in the Guatemalan highlands opened her eyes and her heart to dedicating the rest of her career into social justice, human rights and her main passion, feminism. She currently serves as Regional Coordinator for Women´s Rights at Oxfam in Latin America and the Caribbean.  Her life has also not been easy, and she is also someone who calls herself a ´cancer mom,´ since for the last four years she has been in this journey with her daughter Maria who has been in treatment for a brain tumor and from who she learns how to be a better human being. Aileen is a strong woman and girls advocate, values deeply intersectionality, the importance of community and friendship and wants to normalize seeing the motherhood journey as one where extreme pain and love are always coexisting.

As Latinas we have inherited a rich culture and we want to celebrate this beautiful culture in the month of September and year around. But we also must recognize the differences with other cultures so that we can communicate more effectively and have more successful relationships in our work, home, and community. Because the truth is that humans see the world through a distorting screen created by our deeply held — often subconscious — values and beliefs. This reality can lead to an unintentional blindness and potential insensitivity to the values important to members of other cultures.
