Lets Have This Conversation

Episode 4 The Black Experience

Listen Later

Closing the equity gap for children with disabilities

remains a thorny challenge. One where more conversations and tangible action
need to be taken. Its under this lens I present to you the 4th episode
of Inclusive Beginnings. Where we’ll examine the treatment of black children and
their experiences navigating service delivery within the educational system.   Adding their voices to this conversation are
Christopher Rudder who serves as the only black male resource consultant in the
city of Toronto. Rudder discussed how to close the inequities experienced by
black children and families with disabilities, improving racial relations and
more. Meanwhile, Nerissa Hutchinson is a child and youth practitioner and therapist
who has a daughter with a disability. Both bring a critically important and insightful
angle to this noteworthy conversation.  As
we all look to ensure black children with disabilities have equal access to and
equitable education.
