From Intern to Entrepreneur is the podcast for counseling graduate students (and other grad students in mental health fields) to start planning their journey to private practice while they're still in graduate school! Host, Cori White, started planning her journey while she was still in her graduate program and it paid off BIG to start planning EARLY.
In this episode of From Intern to Entrepreneur, Cori interviews Benny Perales who talks about his past history with addiction and how it brought him into the mental health field. He also talks about starting a private practice and how he's at the very beginning of his PP journey!
About Benny:
Benny A. Perales is a Licensed Clinical Social worker in San Antonio, Texas. This is his second career after retiring from being a nationally certified sign language interpreter for 13 years. He received his social work master’s degree from Texas State University in 2015. Benny worked in corrections with inmates needing mental health services and recently stepped down from a Director of Social Services position at a psychiatric hospital to open his own private practice called Behind the Therapist Door. Benny’s ideal clients are those who have been diagnosed with cancer, a terminal illness, and are experiencing grief due to the loss of a loved one to include beloved pets. Fun facts about Benny is that he became a social worker due to the direct impact a social worker had on him allowing him the privilege to live the life he has today.
