Great Wall is the name card of China, and of Beijing. One way to explore the wonderful resort is to fly over it.
C: Hello, thank you for tuning in to 5Minutes with AOPA-China. This is Claire.
N: Hi, Nick is here with a smile ear toear.
C: Somebody is happy today.
N: Indeed, I am. We had an aerial tour lastWednesday. What made it so special for me is that it was an aerial trip abovethe Great Wall. You know, an aerial sightseeing over the GREAT WALL, it must bea genius that comes up with this combo! I’ve thought of many ways to visit theGreat Wall. Climbing on foot of course is the most common way; taking a cablecar, comparatively speaking, is more relaxing. But in a helicopter. Theexcitement is on a totally different level.
C: Totally agree. It was also my first timeto look at the Great Wall from bird’s eye view. As we were ascendingvertically, with the hum of Robinson 44 filling our ears, I could hear the bloodpumping in my eardrum. Soon, when we merged into the rugged wilderness I couldsee the wild great wall snaking as far as my eyes could go, rising and fallingalong the mountains until disappearing into the horizon.
N: Yes, that image has been carved in mymind. The wild section has been left untouched for hundreds of years. Thoughsome ramparts are crumbling and the trails are covered by weeds, it’s still hauntinglybeautiful.
C: On the other hand, the well-preservedside is more lively, dotted with colors, which were in red, orange, blue orpurple windbreaker jackets.
N: We were in this flight with our friendfrom Switzerland. It is always a pleasure to greet a friend coming from afar.
C: Who has climbed the Great Wall for fourtimes. Great Wall is a must-be resort, indeed.
N: I hiked Badaling last December. Amazing, when I was in the sky, the familiar landscape suddenly became completely new, with colors, patterns, and geographical features you’d never known to existuntil you are way up in the air.
C: Yes.不识庐山真面目,只缘身在此山中。
N:“the true face of Lushan is lost to my sight, for it is right in thismountain that I reside.”
C:I strongly recommend kids to take a flightlike this. As we talked about Anti-aging in aviation last week, to invite morepeople get involved with aviation. I don’t think there is a better way tointerest kids than a real flying experience.
N:Agreed. I wouldn’t expect 10 year olds toenjoy aerodynamic theories in a classroom. But a ride into the sky would spikethe interests much better.
C: Sowing the seeds is everything. And evenfor adults, educational channel is available in everywhere. If you have thetime and will for it, you are never too late to get a bite of this. You know,in 2014, pilots coming from AOPA all over the world had their Great WallFlyover. They told me it was such unforgettable experience. If only they couldbe the pilots in command then.
N: I believe that day will come. The skywill be open for GA in China.
C: So welcome to our world of pilotcommunity. Get to know more about GA. How to get a pilot license, how to buy aplane, where to fly, how to file flight plan, where to find avgas, it is anexciting world.
N: AOPA, your freedom to fly.
C: That’s the spirit.
N: When that day comes, don’t forget tobring us your stories.
C:That brings us to the end of today’s 5minutes with AOPA-China. If you want to appreciate the great wall from adifferent perspective, contact AOPA-China for more information.
N:Yes, you know where to find us:Wechat, Facebook, Twitter, Ximalaya and apple podcast. rate us onapple podcast. If you like us, tell more friends about us. See you next Friday!
