In 2012, David Paulides, a former police officer and Bigfoot enthusiast, became interested in the supposedly excessive number of mysterious disappearances in America’s national parks. Delving into some of these missing persons cases, he compiled several self-published books and crowdfunded documentaries under the Missing 411 moniker, in which he seemed to imply that the National Park Service and other agencies were sometimes engaging in cover-ups about the disappearances and that possibly supernatural causes­—such as skinwalkers, Sasquatches, or interdimensional beings­—might be at play. On this episode of 13 O’Clock, Tom and Jenny talk about the Missing 411 conspiracy, discuss a few of the weirder cases he highlighted, and speculate on whether there is actually anything to his theories about an unusually high number of inexplicable disappearances and deaths.
