Hello everyone, thanks for tuning in to 5Minutes with AOPA-China. This episode is meant to be inspiring as we are goingto interview a super aviation geek.

Nick: Welcome to join us, Mr.Guo. Would youlike to introduce yourself a little bit?

Guo Jia: Hello, my name is Guo Jia. Someonecalls me super aviation geek, but I’d like to say I’m not good enough rightnow, but I believe someday I will. I am running a small company givingtechnical support for cement industry in China also abroad.

Nick: What makes you so crazy about flying?

Guo Jia: I think there are two reason. WhenI was ten years old, my father took me to a park where retired airplanes, commercial airplanes were on display. There was a BEA Trident which was verypopular in 1960s and 1970s in China. I entered the cockpit for the very firsttime. Everything in it was so interesting, I spent almost half an hour stayingin the captain’s seat, trying to touch everything I could reach. From then on,I started to be into airplanes. Another reason is that when I studied abroad, I went to theairport and found a pub next to the runway. So I was just seated there(in thepub), watching planes taking off and landing. And I started to image, maybe oneday I could fly an airplane, landing there.

Nick: When did you first pilot a plane? Can you still remember theaircraft model?

Guo Jia:The first time I flew a plane myself was on 4thof March,2107 inZhoushan Airport, the plane was Cirrus SR20. It’s a good plane and easy to control. Itried my first takeoff, after a few minutes, I finished my first landing withthe captain’s help. It was amazing.

Nick: How many types of plane aircraft have you flown so far?

Guo Jia:I’ve already flown 5 types. They are Cirrus SR20, Robinson HR200, PiperCherokee PA28, Cessna 172 and Diamond DA40.

Nick: Sotell us one of your most memorable experience.

Guo Jia:That was in last year, we went to Britain to have a fly. I was in a RobinsonHR200, I tried the night flight for the first time from Carlisle Lake DistrictAirport. And we had a cross-country flying around the city. When we flew backto the airport, we found a beautiful view: a full moon hung in the cloudlesssky. The runway sat there with all the lights on. We flew towards the moon, aimingat the runway to make the approach. That was a beautiful view.

Nick:Flying towards the moon! That is the most picturesque description I’ve everheard.

Guo Jia: Itook a picture, but the picture doesn’t mean anything, because it was toobeautiful.

Nick: Youdidn’t go there alone right? I remember the aviationgeeks like you have a tribe. You organize flying events from time to time.Would you like to share more information about that community?

Guo Jia:Sure. The name of our organization is called Xi Wan Ge(洗碗哥).洗碗哥is alsothe nickname of the founder. The members of this organization are fromdifferent parts of China. And they are doing different jobs. Some are runningtheir businesses and some work in the bank, some are doctors and some are thecaptains in airlines. And some of them have already finished global flying.People join this organization because they share the same dream of flying. Weget together every one or two months in an airport to spend a flying weekend, exchanging experience with each other. I extend an invitation to you if youreally like flying. Welcome to join us.

Nick: Tell you what, I am also a fan of洗碗哥. I hopeto meet you guys at EAA Oshkosh this July. That brings us to the end of today’s5 Minutes with AOPA-China.
