In 1830 Salem Massachusetts, a wealthy retired merchant named Joseph White disinherited his great niece when he learns or her marrying the town gold digger, Joseph Knapp Jr. But Joseph is a cocky know-it-all, or so he THINKS, and his plan to overthrow his great uncle-in-law's will is soiled because his greed clouded his judgement.
