In Episode 5 this week Josh breaks down Autophagy into simple bite size bits. Dave goes into the benefits of minerals in fasting and why this is important.

Dave discusses why do we need to sweat the small stuff?

Our bodies cannot manufacture everything it needs to function. 
There are FIVE essential nutrients that everyone needs to consume through dietary sources to maintain optimal health and to prevent death! 

These are broken down into two groups:

MICROnutrients

  • Minerals
  • Vitamins
  • Water

MACROnutrients

  • Fats (Fatty acids)
  • Protein (Amino Acids)

Today we are going to focus on MINERALS

Mineral Electrolytes! These are electrically charged minerals in your body.

The main electrolytes are:

  • Sodium
  • Potassium
  • Magnesium
  • Calcium
  • Chloride
  • Bicarbonate
  • Phosphate


Josh will break down autophagy and how long we should be fasting to start activiating autophagy in the body. Autophagy is a process in which a cell recycles unneeded or damaged parts of itself to create new parts and to provide energy for cell survival.

A key sign of autophagy is reduced appetite. It's likely due to changed levels of hormones like glucagon and insulin. Specifically, levels of glucagon tend to increase during autophagy
