I have not been a fan of all things positive since experiencing some difficult things in my life. I truly believe we need to do better at supporting ourselves and others when life gets hard.
And that is where this episode comes from. Life is challenging for all of us, it's time we accept that and let ourselves be all of what makes us human, because after all, positive thinking is nothing more than emotional avoidance and no one can keep that up forever.
So I say we stop now! I say we remove a few more labels like Debbie Downer or Negative Nelly, let's stop making people feel bad for not always being "on" or "perfect". Let's remove the labels of positive and negative when it comes to emotions and just feel what we need to feel.
This episode is all about how I think we are ignoring the hard parts of life to try and fit this mold of being a positive person, we are so scared of being anything but positive it almost seems like we prefer to have anxiety, depression, addiction, all the things that are on the rise.
How are these things on the rise if all we have to do is think positive? Exactly, it doesn't work!
I don't believe the answer to our mental health crisis is thinking positively, I believe the answer is giving ourselves and each other the space to feel what we need to feel. I believe the answer starts with working through our own "hard" by taking time to feel, by figuring out what we are actually feeling, and then working through those feelings.
In this episode I talk about the things that help me do all of these things and that help me embrace my full range of my human emotions. I talk about the tools I have learned along my journey and how they have helped me learn to accept myself, to accept my trauma's, to accept my losses, and how I move through the pain of these things to a place of gratitude.
So, are you ready to help me dismantle and throw away a few more labels that in my mind have helped create the mental health crisis happening all around us? If yes, listen to this episode then let me know what you think!
