A recent article in the journal Nature had an obtuse title but profound impact, "A somato-cognitive action network alternates with effector regions in motor cortex." Translation: the homunculus that was 'discovered' in 1948 actually was an inaccurate description! Really? So we don't REALLY know everything about how the human body works? No surprise there! Just like The Polyvagal Theory has upended what we thought of as the Vagus nerve, research shows that we still have a lot to learn!
