The old saying always went, If it ain’t Boeing, I ain’t going.  A saying that not only showed allegiance to a favorite heavy airframe manufacturer, but that also had an underlying sense of patriotism too. I’d be hard to argue that Boeing isn’t an American institution. A US company that for decades dominated the global airframe market, and even though Airbus has made things more of a duopoly over the past few decades (and I’m going to sidestep a whole bunch of politics here) the Boeing Vs Airbus thing is a lot more than just two companies competing in a market. It’s ideological. Patriotically, it represents the position of the United States in the global transportation market. That alone is enough for most Americans to take up an opinion.  But for us aviators, there’s an even bigger issue, and it’s one of control. Not just in business, but in a fundamental physical form. Because Boeing trusts YOU to have it. Or at least, they always did…
