Episode 6 - Bill Bernard. Episode 6 features Bill Bernard. Bill is the head coach of the Kellam High School cross country and track teams. He is also the founder and head coach of the Bernard Distance Project. Bill is a member of the Tidewater Striders class of 2014 Hall of Fame. He was nominated for his contributions through his competition, volunteerism, and professionalism. One of his largest contributions is creating the New Energy Youth running program for the Tidewater Striders. He has been a part of our running community for over 40 years. If you see Bill, you will most likely see him riding a bike behind a group of his runners on the trails of first Landing or coaching his student athletes at Kellam high school. We chatted over Zoom and went all the way back to his early running days in Ohio, running a marathon as a senior in high school, and his multiple running careers including a top 100 Boston finish and top 10 finishes at Shamrock in the 80s. It was great to sit down with Bill and chat. Finally, stay tuned as I caught up with Steve Sheppard to get an update on our New Energy program. Shep is the coach of Kings Fork XC and track teams and also the lead coach for the new energy and power programs for the tidewater striders...so stay tuned for that.
