Crypto Altruists: Real-World Stories of Social & Environmental Impact with Web3

Episode 63 - 400 Drums - Building an Indigenous-led web3 ecosystem

Listen Later

In Episode 63, we have the privilege of welcoming back the team from 400 Drums, a movement dedicated to supporting Indigenous artists, elders, language speakers and tour operators to harness new online platforms, such as NFTs and web3, to monetize their skills while sharing their teachings and stories. We discuss how they are using NFTs to empower Indigenous communities, the amazing artistic process behind their 444 NFT series, their plans to build an Indigenous web3 ecosystem and more!

Today we welcome four members of the 400 Drums team. First is Tamara Goddard, the Founder, Project Lead, and Graphic Artist behind 400 Drums. Next, we have Rian Bevan, who is one of the Founders and the Innovation Lead for 400 Drums. Next we have the Public Relations Manager, Chris Nelson. And finally, we welcome their web3 specialist, Branden Dame.

Three Key Takeaways

  • NFTs present unique opportunities to build bridges between the digital and physical. 400 Drums does this by turning beautiful, handcrafted Indigenous drums into an NFT that honors the physical art, while preserving it on an immutable blockchain.
  • When building a strong community around an NFT project, it’s all about personal relationships, and building a strong core community, as opposed to trying to just reach the masses.
  • 400 Drums has an ambitious roadmap where the 444 act as a foundation for an Indigenous-led web3 ecosystem including additional NFT collections, DApps, community events and giveaways, and much more.
