Episode 66 - "Zines And Pizza Time!"
Show notes: For this “Drawing Funny” episode it's another quick one featuring news about the MSCA and events going on in and around the M-town like our our next Mid-South Cartoonists Association monthly dinner meet-up and zine assembly at Garibaldi’s Pizza on Tuesday night (9/3/24)- plus other happenings for this fall such as the upcoming 901 C0mics East Sat-Art-Day, Memphis Monster Con, Memphis Monster Market, Memphis Comic Expo/DonnieCon, Memphis Library's ”BOOoooooooks!”, and “The Rogues Gallery” pop-up shop at Centerpoint Games & Toys, as well as info on many other events around the mid-south area. There's just soooo many coming up!
MSCA zine news- the latest issue of the MSCA's "The Good, The Bad, And The Sketchy" zine is hot off the UPS truck and we'll be assembling them during the dinner gathering at Garibaldi's on Tuesday. It's our "Robots" themed 9th issue, and in this podcast episode I give members the 411 on our next non-themed issue #10 which is scheduled to be out later this fall before our "The Funny Pages" art show at Germantown Community Theatre. The Good, the Bad, and the Sketchy is our low-cost contributor-funded venue to collaborate and show off our work in print to members and other customers. It started shortly before the pandemic, and during 2020 it helped members keep working, thinking, and just being "printy" in the 901.
Dale Martin and I recently got our "Watusi" and "Scared Silly" zines in from the printer last week, and will have them for sale at events like Memphis Monster Con and Memphis Monster Market and some retail locations. I just dropped off copies of mine to the DeSoto Arts Council in Hernando, MS.
Fall is almost here, y'all - and I hope to see you out at some of these upcoming spectacular spooky season events!
