Episode 7: A Brief Introduction to South African Politics: The ANC and the DA (Part 2)

Listen Later

Hello listeners, welcome back to the Pink Notice Podcast! This week, we continue our brief introduction to South African politics with part two.

At the end of May 2024, South Africa held its seventh democratic general election. With no party winning an outright majority, some parties coalesced to form the “Government of National Unity”. The GNU consists of the ANC, DA, Patriotic Alliance, Inkatha Freedom Party, GOOD, Pan Africanist Congress of Azania, Vryheidsfront Plus, United Democratic Movement, Rise Mzansi, and Al Jama-ah.

As you can imagine, these parties have different bases and policies—and what happens of the next few years may be quite… interesting. But before we discuss what fruits this new government ends up bearing, we take a look at 5 salient aspects of the manifestos of the coalitions’s biggest parties: the African National Congress and the Democratic Alliance.

We hope you enjoy our second deep dive and that you stay subscribed for more episodes—deep or shallow! As always, we thirst for your feedback. If you enjoyed the episode or have any other feedback, please let us know.
