Episode #7 How Understanding Mental Health Can Break Stigmas and Lead to Healing

Listen Later

According to Mirriam Webster “Crazy” is described as “usually offensive” and defined as “not mentally sound: marked by thought or action that lacks reason”. But the thing is, anyone who actually seeks out assistance with any mental health issues, has actively thought and determined that healing is required for their current mental status in order for peace and clarity to enter their lives. This clearly makes them anything but “crazy”. Yet societal and cultural influences have created a sense of oneness between the word and the state of receiving care causing many to suffer in vain. In this episode, licensed professional counselor, Virginia Dale Manning, LPC-S, shares her personal journey of finding purpose through mental health advocacy and breaks down stigmas around therapy, as well as the difference between psychiatrists and therapists - and who you need on your team.
