The story of Joe Arridy is one of sadness, ignorance, and shame. Joe was a severely intellectually disabled man, charged for a heinous crime committed against sisters- Dorothy and Barbara Drain. Woven throughout this tale were major cracks in the justice system (including coercion & false confessions), as well as inhumane terminology from the late 1930's. PRAISE BE that some things have evolved in incredible ways since that time period, but as many know, there is still A LOT of work to be done.
