This week we pick up the Gucci saga at Maurizio’s untimely end via an assassination orchestrated by none other than his ex-wife. From there the brand enters a new phase, one not under the control of a familial Gucci. Enter Tom Ford and the sex sells mentality of the 90’s. Ford, together with Domenico De Sole, turn the flailing brand into a powerhouse that ultimately joins with (what is today) Kering and the pair spearhead amassing some of the biggest brands in fashion. But no good deed goes unpunished, and Ford and De Sole are eventually pushed out to make room for Frida Giannini. She’s not without her own scandal… Finally, we enter the Alessandro Michele phase of the house, complete with baby dragons and decapitated heads. Quite the turnaround, huh?
