For years, I thought that if I was just nice enough, people would respect me, opportunities would come my way, and life would be smooth sailing. I put everyone else’s needs before my own. I avoided conflict. I thought that by being agreeable, I’d be appreciated.
But here’s what actually happened: I felt invisible. No one respected me. I got walked all over in relationships. I avoided asking for what I wanted, and when I didn’t get it, I felt bitter and resentful. Sound familiar?
