If there is one thing that I have learned, it is that no two people experience the same situation in the same way. Rather, we all experience life through our own unique filters. I have talked about these filters in previous episodes but in this episode, my guest and I talk about how COVID highlighted this on a global stage as we all experienced the same pandemic but our daily and individual situations were all very different.
Some of us had whole families locked up together in one house.
Some of us were in apartments with limited outdoor space.
Some of us became teachers overnight, all while working fulltime and trying to keep the house running.
Some of us lost our jobs.
And, some of us lived in isolation, alone, for 16 months. This was the experience of Cathy and in this episode she talks about how the loss of both her parents 16 years ago factored in to her experience. She talks about her now understanding why jails punish people with isolation. Or why prisoners of war were left alone as a form of torture. As humans, we are social beings, even the most introverted ones of us, we still need social interaction for our overall mental health. COVID took that away for so many. Yet we aren't talking about it.
Until this episode. Cathy is so open about her experience and I am so grateful for that.
