More than 40% of Canadians are incorporating more plant-based foods in their diets. There are around 2.3 million vegetarians and 850,000 vegans in Canada. And as we will learn in this show, increasing plant-based choices in your diet can offer many health benefits including helping to prevent and manage chronic diseases and even providing performance-enhancing effects for various types of exercise. Joining me first is Dr. Hana Kahleova, MD, PhD, Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, she is an author and a researcher into this very topic. She joined me from her office in Washington DC to share more about her work. We the spoke with Pierre Fobert, Acting Program Director, Sustainable Protein Production National Research Council – he will share how industry and agriculture are embracing the increase in plant based nutrition and what it means for our economy here in Canada. Lastly I was joined by Jason Callahan who chose a vegan lifestyle 9 years ago. He joined me to share his experience and clarify some common misconceptions.
