On June 21, 1964 three civil rights activists went missing after investigating a hate crime in Mississippi. The case became one of the highest profile murder investigations of the 1960's and helped turn public support in favor of civil rights and was instrumental in the passage of the Civil Rights act of 1964 and the 1965 Voter Rights Act.
