This episode features two letters written by Sweetie in March and early April 1951. In this episode, we get updates about what has been occurring at Sweetie's home in Hatboro, Pennsylvania and her various activities - including searching for more antiques. Meanwhile, Elizabeth's mother-in-law, Mrs. Brown, passes away after having been at the local hospital for several weeks. There is also more information in one of the letters about the Demaree family and the Demarest ancestral home in Bergen County, New Jersey.
Additionally, we review what happened in April 1951 - that President Truman fired General MacArthur, and we get an update on the Korean War. It is strongly encouraged that listeners pick up a copy of David McCullough's "Truman" book and review this section of the text for additional information on that subject.
The Love Sweetie Podcast is a unique historical project that features real letters from Kathryn Frances Demaree Graham a.k.a. "Sweetie" that were written during her lifetime. These authentic letters are narrated and commented on by the hosts of the show (who give context on what is being discussed).
