We can all name historical transitions of the past: the rise of agriculture, the fall of Rome, the transition from the dark ages into Feudalism, and the transition from Feudalism into industrialism. Nonetheless, we tend to think of the modern age as inevitable—for many of us, it's hard to imagine a world without nation-states.
And yet, many argue that this age is coming. The Sovereign Individual by James Dale Davidson and William Rees-Mogg examines this prospect. The writers argue that as cyberspace allows entrepreneurs of the future to exist in a manner that's disconnected from the constraints of the industrial age, incentives will shift and the power of the nation-state will be eroded.
In an episode which delves into the past in order to examine the future, the Multiversity Project touch on such topics as Jeffrey Epstein's recent arrest, how Trump's presidency compares to the downfall of Rome, what the United States, ancient Rome and the Soviet Union have in common, and how the incentives of violence shifted between feudal and modern times.
