🍿MOVEMBER DETAILS🍿
https://www.brightsidehometheater.com/
In this episode, Steve and DJ kicked things off by looking back at the 25-hour Movember live stream and just how much fun it was reconnecting with guests, hearing from the community, and seeing everyone show up in the chat. They talked about how challenging it can be to keep the conversation flowing while also keeping up with comments, but the support from listeners continues to make the whole thing work. They also shared some of the funniest behind-the-scenes moments from the event, including surprise guest appearances, costumes, and the kind of chaos that somehow makes the show even better. On top of that, they gave an update on this year’s Movember raffle, including some great prize additions and how listeners can help support the fundraising effort throughout the month.
From there, Steve and DJ dug into a packed home theater lineup. They spent a lot of time on Masters of the Universe, which absolutely lit them up as both a movie and a demo-worthy disc, with big debate energy around whether it belongs at the top of our year-end home theater rankings. They also talked about Resident Evil and why its mix of humor, gore, and excellent audio/video presentation made it such a surprise standout, revisited Spider-Man: No Way Home as part of our Marvel rewatch leading into Doomsday, and wrapped with very different reactions to Undertone—one of them appreciating its sound-driven horror approach, the other finding it a swing that didn’t connect. All in all, this one was full of laughs, strong opinions, and a lot of excitement for what’s still to come this year in home theater.

This week Steve and DJ had an absolute blast catching up with everyone and diving into a packed stack of home theater experiences. They talked about the upcoming 25-hour Movember charity livestream, shouted out the amazing community support behind it, and previewed a few things on the watchlist, including the sound-focused horror film Undertone and a big-screen trip for Godzilla Minus Zero. From there, they got into a long run of reviews, starting with Arrow’s 4K release of The Last Boy Scout, which they agreed is still a wildly entertaining, flawed, funny action classic with a serviceable Atmos mix. They also hit Tony Scott’s The Hunger, celebrated Blade as still one of the coolest comic book movies ever made, and revisited Blade II, where the movie still rules even if the current Blu-ray audio left a little to be desired.
The guys also worked through more of the Doomsday prep list, including Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which remains a fantastic movie even if the disc’s low-end disappointed me, plus Loki season 1 and season 2, where Steve loved revisiting the multiverse setup but had a much rougher time with the second season. On a much happier note, Project Hail Mary absolutely floored Steve on disc, with audio so immersive it felt like it went through him instead of just around him, and Little Shop of Horrors ended the week on a huge high with a stunning 4K presentation and a phenomenal Atmos mix. If you love home theater discs that remind you why this hobby is so much fun, this episode is loaded with them.

This week Steve and DJ share a packed home theater watch list, and they kicked things off with a big update on the upcoming 25-hour charity show for Movember. DJ talked about how the event is coming together, the guests already lining up, and the hope of getting more community help involved for future years so it can keep growing. From there, they dove straight into one of the biggest surprises of the year: Mike Flanagan’s Carrie series on Amazon. They were both blown away by how effective it is as long-form storytelling, how strong the performances are, and how incredible the home theater presentation is, especially the Atmos mix. For Steve, it instantly became series-of-the-year material.
The guys also revisited Avengers: Endgame as part of our road to Doomsday and talked about why it still lands as both an emotional payoff and a top-tier 4K demo disc. On the other end of the spectrum, Steve shared some blunt thoughts on the new Street Fighter movie, which absolutely did not work for him. They also took a nostalgic but brutally honest look at Vampire Hunter D, where DJ brought personal history to the conversation while they both admitted it hasn’t aged especially well. To close things out on a stronger note, they revisited Evil Dead Burn on 4K and had a much better time with it at home than Steve did in theaters, thanks to a far more immersive and effective home theater experience.

In this episode, Steve and DJ kicked things off with some home-theater-adjacent banter before diving into what we’ve been watching and how it all played in the theater. Steve shared an early recommendation for Mike Flanagan’s new Carrie series on Prime Video, which has been fantastic so far, with strong Dolby Vision/Atmos presentation and a surprisingly rich expansion of the story and characters. They also talked about tactile transducers and whether butt kickers add to the experience or become a distraction, plus how room design and bass management can create that physical impact naturally in a dedicated theater.
From there, The guys got into a packed movie discussion with a strong Halloween vibe. They reviewed Hokum, where the sound design and atmosphere made a great case for home theater viewing even if we didn’t completely agree on the film itself, and Steve also brought up 1408 as a haunted hotel favorite with a terrific audiovisual presentation. Then they returned to our Marvel countdown with Avengers: Infinity War, which they both praised as a near-perfect combination of movie, sound, and picture quality, and a true reference-level home theater experience. They wrapped with a spirited split decision on Interview with the Vampire—one of them appreciating its craft and style, the other finding it very much not his kind of vampire movie.

In this episode, Steve and DJ kick things off with their October vampire theme and dive into the Swedish original Let the Right One In. From a home theater perspective, this one really stood out for its atmosphere-first design: subtle detail, an incredibly low noise floor, and a soundtrack that rewards a quiet room and careful listening. As a film, they found it haunting, emotional, and layered, mixing horror, coming-of-age drama, and fairy-tale-like storytelling in a way that makes it ideal for a cold Halloween-season watch.
The guys also continued their road to Avengers: Doomsday with a revisit of 2012’s The Avengers, celebrating it as both a foundational MCU film and a reference-level home theater disc with exceptional 4K image quality and immersive audio. From there, they crossed over to DC to talk about Supergirl, which impressed them with razor-sharp detail, vivid HDR, and standout Atmos audio, making it one of the year’s biggest home theater surprises. They wrapped up with spoiler-free thoughts on the Lanterns season finale, including how much stronger the Kaleidescape presentation is compared to streaming and why the series feels like the beginning of something much bigger for the DCU.

This week, Steve and DJ welcomed John back and they had some fun catching up on his memorabilia room being reassembled as he gets the house ready to sell. Then they jumped into a packed movie-and-home-theater conversation, starting with Steve’s enthusiastic recommendation for Colony, a wild Korean horror thriller from the director of Train to Busan. They talked about why it works so well as a suspense ride, how creative the Atmos mix is, and why fans of intense creature features should keep it on their radar. They also revisited Captain America: The First Avenger as part of our Marvel rewatch, reflecting on how much fun these earlier MCU films still are and why this one may matter again heading into Doomsday.
The guys also dug into two very different recent watches: Heart of the Beast, which hit them hard emotionally with its survival story and powerful man-and-dog bond, and Passenger, a lean supernatural road horror with an unexpectedly strong Atmos presentation. To wrap things up, they took a nostalgic detour into Arrow, revisiting the start of the CW DC universe and appreciating just how entertaining that first season still is in a proper home theater setup. Altogether, this episode was a mix of laughs, horror, comic-book nostalgia, and the kind of home theater geekery we love most.

This week, Steve and DJ are back in the home theater diving deeper into their road to Avengers: Doomsday, with a big focus on X2: X-Men United and X-Men: Days of Future Past. They talk through why X2 still holds up as one of the best early superhero sequels, from its stronger character work to its excellent surround sound design, while they also dig into the possibility that its inclusion on the watchlist is really about reintroducing Nightcrawler ahead of Doomsday. They also go off-list for Days of Future Past, a movie they both think is outstanding and maybe even essential viewing because of how it plays with altered timelines, consequences, and “borrowed lives” in a way that could connect directly to what Doctor Doom is doing next.
On the home theater side, the guys get into why both films are still terrific demo material, especially Days of Future Past with its powerful bass, immersive action, and standout 4K presentation. They also branch out into a few other highlights, including early praise for Resident Evil, which they think could end up being one of the year’s most fun horror releases, plus a quick revisit to Barbarian, where Steve admits he's still not fully won over by the movie even though the disc presentation is strong. They also check in on their growing Doomsday countdown, tease upcoming reviews like Captain America: The First Avenger, and start planting the seeds for a vampire-themed October lineup.

This week, Steve and DJ had a blast diving into why Avengers: Endgame still feels like a perfect movie. They talked about the impossible storytelling challenge Marvel pulled off by weaving together a decade of character building, dozens of major players, and an emotional payoff that still lands on rewatch. That naturally launched our official countdown to Doomsday, starting with X-Men and setting up the path ahead through the Marvel timeline. They broke down why the original X-Men still matters, how well it holds up in a home theater, and why revisiting these movies now feels like the perfect excuse to remember why these characters connected with us in the first place.
The guys also spent time on the home theater side of things, including a very cool personal update: thanks to the generosity of a friend in the community, DJ is one big step closer to getting his theater back up and running. On the review front, they covered the 4K release of Troy, where the video impressed more than the audio, and they did not hold back on their disappointment with Guy Ritchie’s In the Grey. To end on a high note, Steve and DJ talked about how much fun Lanterns continues to be, both as a show and as a surprisingly strong home theater experience, with great bass and atmosphere that really stand out even on streaming.

This week, DJ caught up with the John and Steve after a busy stretch and shared highlights from his latest CEDIA trip, including the standout demo rooms, the best image he saw all week, and why the show is always more fun when you get to experience it through someone else’s eyes for the first time. They also wrapped up their World War II movie run with a deep discussion of Downfall, a German-language look at Hitler’s final days that we found gripping, disturbing, and incredibly effective both as filmmaking and as a home theater experience. From Bruno Ganz’s unforgettable performance to the oppressive bass and bunker atmosphere, this was one of those movies that stays with you long after the credits roll.
From there, the guys shifted gears into pure home theater fun with The Mandalorian and Grogu, which impressed all of us with its massive IMAX-enhanced presentation, excellent Atmos mix, and some genuinely jaw-dropping visuals at home. They also talked about seeing Terminator 2: Judgment Day back in a theater for its anniversary, revisited catalog titles like Falling Down and 30 Days of Night on 4K, and DJ shared his first hands-on experience with the Apple Vision Pro. They closed by looking ahead to our next movie season, our buildup to Doomsday, and another big Movember marathon on the horizon.

A CEDIA Send-Off and the Power of Saving Private Ryan
Every show is fun to do, but some are even more fun than others! This week’s was next level! This week: we have a guest on the show, we Save Private Ryan and all in The Name of the Rose! Enjoy! 🎬🎬🍿🍿
Enjoy!
Lets get into ALL our Home Theater Experiences!
So much fun!
“If you can’t laugh while talking Home Theater, you’re doing something wrong.”
Right?
Push Play and hear for yourself.
In this episode, John, Steve and DJ are joined by their 25 Hr Show raffle winner, Paul Frederick, as we kick off our CEDIA trip and talk about what it means to finally connect in person over a shared love of home theater. They chat about Paul’s first impressions of the the Bright Side Home Theater studio, his excitement for experiencing CEDIA firsthand, and why events like this are really about the people as much as the gear. They also spend some time talking about Apple Vision Pro, immersive video, and where personal viewing tech may be headed for movies and live sports.
Then the guys dive into one of the great home theater showcase films of all time: Saving Private Ryan. They break down why it still stands as a reference-level experience, from its emotional storytelling and iconic performances to its stunning 4K presentation and deeply immersive sound design. They also briefly revisit The Name of the Rose as an underrated catalog title worth rediscovering, and wrap up with some quick thoughts on Lanterns before looking ahead to more CEDIA coverage and next week’s movie discussion.
