Pastor Jeffrey Walter

Episodes Of Hopelessness

Listen Later

As believers, we sincerely desire freedom in Christ, but do not have a good estimation of what it will take to be free or the nature of what this journey entails. As a result, when faced with difficulties, we easily enter seasons of discouragement, uncertainty, and spiritual fatigue, which cause us to give up hope and sometimes abandon the journey altogether.

In this message titled, “Episodes of Hopelessness,” Pastor Jeffrey Walter addresses the reality of these difficult moments, and reveals why they are a normal and necessary part of the Christian walk. Using the biblical example of the journey of the Israelites from Egypt to the Promised Land, he sheds light on this long and often challenging process, explaining the nature of captivity from which freedom is being sought, and how the doctrine of “faith alone” can lead to false security, impatience, and eventual discouragement on this journey to freedom. To end, Pastor Jeffrey Walter highlights that these episodes of hopelessness do not mean that freedom is impossible. He calls on believers to hold fast to their initial confidence in God’s promises, and persevere even when the journey is uncertain, difficult, and costly.

What the enemy wants is for you to give in, but may you be strengthened to hold on firmly to the hope set before you. As you listen to this message, may the Lord grant you grace to journey all the way with Him, from captivity to true freedom. Shalom!

Key Scriptures: Hebrews 3:14-18 (KJV)

14For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end; 15While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation. 16For some, when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses. 17But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness? 18And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not?

Hebrews 10:35 (KJV) Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.
