The Rock County Chapter of the Ice Age Trail Alliance is excited to share the enchanting story of Norman and Elmer Sandley’s Riverside & Great Northern Railway (1948-1953), a 15-gauge rail line running three-quarters of a mile from South Park station in Riverside Park to the Washington Street terminal north of Memorial Bridge. This tour includes more than one-hundred photographs, accounts from the men and women who operated, supported, and rode the train, artifacts from the R&GN line, and a walk along the former railbed where we’ll share the location of the turntables, engine house, water tank, and ticket booth. the city of Janesville’s General Motors Site Redevelopment Board officially started its work Thursday, City Manager Kevin Lahner promised them they have months of complex work ahead. But before Lahner took the 11-person panel for a tour of the 250-acre former GM site, Lahner told them he wants them to stop calling it the GM site.
