  • #6: Meditation and Consciousness

In this episode, Raymond talks about his experience with meditation, after meditating for the past 5 years and attending a meditation retreat this summer. The conversation slowly changes towards questions regarding consciousness, as Raymond and Anthony explore the mind-body problem of consciousness, and how meditation, philosophy, and science can all help us understand why humans experience consciousness.

Portions of this episode have been cut due to poor audio and the belief that we can do the topics (e.g. AI) justice in later episodes.

      • #5: Why Philosophy is Important

In this episode, Raymond and Anthony highlight how learning philosophy can affect all aspects of our daily lives, and how philosophy is present in whatever we learn, whether the sciences or art. They show how despite the current image of philosophers being old men thinking about irrelevant topics, philosophy can be used to live better lives overall, improving our character and the way we interact with the world.

          • #4: Masculinity and Radicalization

Raymond and Anthony discuss the recent male mental health crisis which has seen suicide rates among men triple those of non-males. Raymond discusses the relationship between contemporary masculinity and the weaponization of masculinity by influencers to advance their misogynist worldview. They also discuss the binding hold contemporary gender roles impose on people, how the expectations placed upon men have led to the said mental health crisis, and how a school of thought believed to be the enemy--feminism--is actually the antidote. Finally, they try to discuss solutions to these problems, and try to instill a kind of hope in the listener.

*the term right-wing was used sloppily in the episode. there is nothing inherently wrong with right-wing ideas, the issue is that oftentimes right-wing ideas are used to perpetuate problematic statements. we apologize for that.
