With their extensive esports program, their team takes part in several digital contests across the country competing in popular titles such as Fortnite, Rocket League, Rainbow Six Siege. Overwatch, League of Legend, CS Go, and much more.
Since its inception, The universities’ esports program played a significant role in new enrollments and student retention. Since then it has received a consistently increasing amount of support from the community and has rightfully earned its place as a part of the Edinboro Athletics program. Playing videogames will have this biased reputation among older folks and faculty members but its positive impact on the students and the school is changing that view.
In this episode, Chris Rhodes, Edinboro University Esports Director, and Men and Women’s Swim and Diving Headcoach share their esports journey from the program being denied to finally becoming a legitimate eSports program that positively impacts students and the school. As part of the Edinboro University Athletics program, Under Cris’s guidance, the students are still required to meet the same academic eligibility requirements as every student-athlete in the University.
