Mercy College or Mercy NY is a private university with its main campus located in Dobbs Ferry, New York, and other locations in Manhattan and the Bronx. Mercy NY's Esports program is still in its infancy. They've launched their esports club in November 2019 and held their first collegiate esports match in March 2020.  The programs' main base of operation is in Mercy Manhattan campus. The program runs under the schools' student life and club sports division and is closely working with athletics when they're officially competing in collegiate tournaments.

They're members of ECC (East Coast Conference) and are currently competing in titles like League of Legends and Overwatch. They are also setting up to expand the program's game repertoire, looking to compete in Rocket League, Smash Brothers, Valorant, and other pc and console games in the near future. Since its inception, the program has received tremendous support from the school's president, directors, department head down to the student body. One of the biggest challenges they're facing is that they have 3 separate campuses which make organizing events, practices and esports related responsibilities a bit tricky.

Marist College Esports is a relatively new program. Their emerging esports program falls under the campus's Club Sports, Intramurals, and Camps department which oversees 14 recognized club sports, esports program included. The program started out as a student's gaming club around 2017 but recently has received a tremendous amount of support from the campus and has just received a push to become a legitimate competitive collegiate program. The program is mostly student-run, where students organize the practice routines and the club’s gaming-related responsibilities. 

Their esports program competes under MAAC (Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) and has participated in the conference's collegiate esports tournament in April 2020. Finishing 1st overall. Placing 1st in League of Legends, Overwatch, Rocket League, and 2nd in Super Smash Brothers in the Tournament. Their exceptional performance has earned them the title of MAAC's 2020 Esports Program of The Year. An impressive feat for a student-run organization.

Long Island Esports program was launched in 2019. The LIU esports program has two branches, one is their collegiate varsity program which falls under athletics and the other is their esports club program which falls under LIU Promise, a department that handles everything about student life, student affairs, extracurricular activities, counseling, and the likes. It is what their head coach considers as a hybrid program which is a unique and interesting setup. 

The great thing about having an athletic and club hybrid organization is the community and flexibility. The varsity branch is more organized and has rigorous practice routines and guidelines that adhere to the standards of the university's Athletic Varsity program. The club branch, on the other hand, has a more casual approach, they can practice any time they’re available, they conduct gaming events and mini-tournaments. The great thing about this setup is if there’s a game that is popular among participants and is played at a high level, the program will find their participants a place to compete in and possibly become a part of their varsity roster.

Lincoln Christian University will officially launch its esports program this fall 2020. The said program will be under its Athletic Department where athletic scholarships, NAIA affiliation, academic standards for participants will be treated the same as any traditional varsity sports the school has to offer.  The program started as a gaming club and has eventually evolved into an official athletic program.

Kilgore College, a community college in Kilgore Texas, started their esports community in 2017, it wasn’t as big as it is now but it has been a very active gaming community sporting school tournaments.  In the spring of 2019, they officially launched the KC esports program as a competitive collegiate gaming team that competes in the country’s collegiate tournaments in Overwatch, League of Legends, Rocket League, Call of Duty, and Hearthstone.

In this episode, Clarence Taylor - Headcoach of the  Kilgore College eSports program talks about their journey in the esports scene. Earlier in his career, Clarence has always been active in the gaming community, sporting tournaments in his community youth centers, and boys and girls club. Kansas Wesleyan University’s first esports team was formed in the fall of 2015. It was a team that competed in the game League of Legends through the Collegiate Star League. Fast forward 2017 the University’s esports program was officially recognized as part of the University’s Athletic Department and has got the full support of the University. The program is steadily expanding facilities, community, and repertoire. They now have teams for games like Overwatch, Rocket League, and Hearthstone. As KWU’s Esports program continues to grow they just have expanded their program to consoles and will soon be competing in Smash Bros.

Despite the steady growth of their esports community and well-supported facilities, one of the challenges they’re facing is recruitment. They have scholarships for esports athletes but finding players that can perform at a national collegiate level is no easy task. Unlike other traditional sports, the resources for recruitment for highschool e-sports prospects are next to none. KWU esports program is relatively modest compared to big universities. But, the program’s robust support system has tremendously helped the team succeed and compete against the nation’s best esports program.

Started as the programs head coach in January 2020. He helped transform the program into an organized institution and helped the team to compete with the nations best. Greenville University has just officially started their collegiate esports program in 2018.  What started as a small student gaming club has overtime grew to an official varsity program. Now it is officially recognized as a part of the university’s athletic department. Relatively new to the collegiate esports scene Greenville E-sports Program has undergone its fair share of challenges. Being a small university one of the biggest challenges is providing the players with the right hardware. They were able to overcome such challenges with dedication, resourcefulness, and having a robust esports community with the guidance of a head coach who believed in the vision.

The Greenville University Esports squad currently sports 40 varsity members competing in games like Overwatch, Apex, Rainbow Six, Rocket League, Smash Bros., and more. With their eSports program consistently growing, the school has arranged to expand their games and facilities soon.

DePaul University is considered as one of the universities that pioneered and embraced e-sports as an official school program, one of the biggest challenges they’re facing is keeping up with the skyrocketing interest to their esports program from students. Ever since their esports program launched it has made a significant impact on DePaul’s student population. Based on a recent survey 5% of the students enrolled in DePaul because of their esports program, and 14% said that it was the deciding factor in making DePaul as their University of choice.
