U.S. airlines carried an average of more than 1 million passengers a day in the past week, the highest non-holiday total since the Covid-19 pandemic began gutting travel demand in the countryalmost a year ago.

Sunday’s total of 1.28 million was the third highest since travel collapsed in mid-March 2020, according to data reported by the Transportation Security Administration.

The airline industry remains severely depressed compared to before the pandemic erupted. Passenger volumes in the past week were 56% below the equivalent week in 2019, the most recent period that wasn’t depressed by the coronavirus, according to the Airlines for America trade group.

Scores of Rohingya refugees who fled persecution in Myanmar were sent to detention centres by police in the city of Jammu on Tuesday.

Footage shows families of Rohingya refugees, found to be living illegally in Jammu collecting their possessions before being taken to detention centres by police.

"After we fled from Myanmar to save our lives we came to the Jammu region of India. And here we are being provided Identity cards from United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and they did all the formalities with us as we are refugees here, also we have our own identity cards from Myanmar, but now we don't know why Indian police are sending our fellow people to the detention centers," said Rohingya refugee Mohammad Salim.

According to reports once the refugees are identified, authorities will begin the process of deportation. Local reports also suggest that at least 168 Rohingya refugees have been picked up by authorities in the Indian territory of Jammu already.

As part of an initiative to track the corporate response to the Black Lives Matter movement, Bloomberg has obtained detailed breakdowns of U.S. employee counts by race and gender across job categories for 37 out of 100 of the nation’s biggest corporations, up from 25 last fall. An additional 30 companies pledged to provide the information in the near future.

“This is a significant step forward in measuring diversity within companies,” said Alison Omens, chief strategy officer at JUST Capital, which has been pressuring companies to release such data. “Disclosure in the first step in advancing racial equity.”

The Biden administration is closing in on its first major legislative win after Senate Democrats passed a nearly $2 trillion pandemic aid package last week.

Now, the bill heads back to the U.S. House of Representatives, where lawmakers are expected to take up and pass, again on party lines, the second-largest economic stimulus package in modern U.S. history.

No Senate Republicans voted for the bill, and the legislation does not include several controversial measures that President Joe Biden originally proposed -- including a minimum wage increase. The bill will deliver $300 a week in extra unemployment assistance and make the first $10,200 of unemployment insurance benefits non-taxable for households with incomes of less than $150,000. The package also directs more relief to state and local governments and for vaccinations.
