Asian shares fell in early trade on Thursday hit by worries about the Omicron coronavirus variant and a hawkish tilt at the U.S. Federal Reserve, but pared most of these losses on bargain-hunting in quality stocks. MSCI's index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was up by 0.31 per cent.

Domestic equity markets bounced on Wednesday, thanks to positive GDP numbers and global trends. Optimism over GDP, core sector output and fiscal deficit supported the sentiments.

Following a 15 per cent fall from record high level, Bank Nifty is likely to see a comeback if a popular technical indicator is to go by. The relative strength indicator or RSI for Bank Nifty is at the 24 level - which is the lowest since March 2020. Traders use this measure to analyse whether the index or stock is overbought or oversold.

On BSE Sensex, Tata Steel tanked 4 per cent, followed by a 3 per cent fall in Kotak Mahindra Bank. Bajaj Auto and M&M shed 2 per cent each.

Investors, who have taken some money out of equities after the sharp run-up, could buy gold through the eight tranche of the Sovereign Gold Bond issue which will be open till December 3. Given the uncertainty on account of the new virus variant, financial planners believe investors should hold 10 per cent of their total portfolio in gold.

More than 340 stocks hit upper circuit limits for the day and about 440 stocks hit the lower circuit. More than 70 stocks tested their 52-week highs during the session.
