In the biggest weekly decline since mid-June amid troublesome global cues, Nifty ended the week down 1.7 per cent. Nifty Bank, on the other hand, advanced for 4 weeks in a row and ended the week higher by 1 per cent but slipped below the 52-week high level achieved yesterday.

Selling pressure heavyweights like Reliance, IT stocks and financials dragged the indices lower amid rising volatility due to the weekly expiry of F&O contracts. However, buying in auto stocks gave some support.

BSE's 30-share pack Sensex dropped 224 points to settle below the 60,350 mark, whereas NSE's barometer Nifty50 shed over 66 points but managed to end the session above the 18,000-level.

BSE's 30-pack index, Sensex jumped 456 points to settle above 60,570 mark, whereas NSE barometer Nifty50 index added about 134 points to end the day at 18,070. The index settled above the 18,000 mark for the first time since April 4.

It was a strong day of gains for domestic stocks, but that was really due to morning gains. The fact that the key indices failed to see a follow-up buying as the session progressed disappointed investors. Nonetheless, Monday's gains meant domestic stocks were up for the third straight session.

The 30-pack Sensex advanced 104 points to end the day at 59,793. Its broader peer, Nifty50, ended at 17,833, up 35 points. This was the first time since January 2022 that the NSE barometer closed the week above 17,800 level. For the week, Nifty added 1.68 per cent while Sensex 1.66 per cent.

In the Sensex kitty of stocks, Tech Mahindra was the biggest gainer, rising 3 per cent to Rs 1,090.35. Axis Bank was up 3.22 per cent, ICICI Bank increased 2.57 per cent and M&M surged 2.46 per cent. SBI, UltraTech Cement, Bajaj Finserv and Bharti Airtel were also among other top gainers.

In the 30-pack Sensex, IndusInd Bank was the biggest loser, down 1.64 per cent to Rs 1,090.40. M&M shed 1.34 per cent, Maruti Suzuki declined 1.15 per cent and Bharti Airtel fell 1.08 per cent. SBI, ICICI Bank, Tata Steel and HDFC were also among stocks that settled with cuts.

Bajaj Finserv was the top loser from the 30-share pack, falling 2.08 per cent to Rs 17,014, Kotak Mahindra Bank declined 1.18 per cent, M&M was down 1.08 per cent, and HUL declined 1.07 per cent. Bajaj Finance, Asian Paints, Nestle India and Asian Paints were also among the stocks that settled with cuts.
