  • Genesis 2:1-3
God rested on the seventh day of creation, completing all the work he began and then finished on days one through six. The seventh day of rest begins a pattern later made into law in the ten commandments (number four, Ex. 20:4-6). The Sabbath (meaning rest) was only a shadow that found its substance in Christ (Col. 2:16-17). Jesus claimed to be the "lord of the Sabbath" (Mark 2:28). And Hebrews tells us that Jesus is the Sabbath rest we must enter into (Heb. 4:9-10).

This is a specific prophecy about Judah's ultimate and eternal son, Jesus the Christ.

  • Isaiah 7:14: Immanuel, God With Us
700 years before Jesus' birth, a prophecy was given to King Ahaz of Judah about a child that would be born. While this prophecy found its immediate fulfillment in Isaiah and his wife having a child, its ultimate fulfillment would be in the birth of Jesus by his virgin mother, Mary.

  • Micah 5:2: A Ruler From Bethlehem
The Holman Illustrated Bible Dictionary describes Advent as:
[A] Word with Latin roots, meaning “coming.” Christians of earlier generations spoke of “the advent of our Lord” and of “His second advent.” The first phrase refers to God’s becoming incarnate in Jesus of Nazareth. The latter phrase speaks of Jesus’ second coming. In a second sense “advent” designates a period before Christmas when Christians prepare for the celebration of Jesus’ birth.
Micah 5:2 is a predictive prophecy about the coming of Jesus the Messiah into the world.
