In the parable of the Pharisee and the tax-collector, we see in the Pharisee how pride leads the sinner to create an image of himself to be worshipped. It is idolatry of the worst kind.

"If you do not believe that I AM, you will die in your sins." (John 8:24)

In the history of mankind, only a few are saved in each generation. The gate is narrow and few find it. It is those God elects and effectually calls who come in faith to Christ while the rest of mankind is left in there sin, "free" to reject Christ.

We have, in this series on the doctrine of eternal punishment, looked at these two verses several times, emphasizing the narrowness of the way to life in Christ contrasted with the wideness of that Broadway that leads to destruction. This morning, as we look at these scriptures again, our focus will be upon the few who enter through it, let alone who even find it.
