For the third week of Advent we light the joy candle, and reflect on what joy looks like, both in our world, and also in the world that Christ was born into.

For podcasters, a quick note: In an attempt to bring some joy into our in person gathering we had Ol' Rev. Randell lead us in a few Christmas songs which were a blast in person, but don't translate well to the podcast. Hence you'll hear music begin and then fade out a few times in the podcast.

If anyone experienced the dissonance between what God's people say they believe and how they actually act... it was Jesus. It literally got him killed.

And yet when speaking about his own tradition and story, he didn't dismiss what came before him, but said he was here to fulfill it. What does it mean to fulfill the story you've received, even while critiquing and ultimately judging it?

That's where the good road leads us this week.
