Whom you love and who you show affection for reveals what you love. 1 John 4:20 If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates (works against) his [Christian] brother he is a liar; for the one who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen. 21 And this commandment we have from Him, that the one who loves God should also [unselfishly] love his brother and seek the best for him.

Obedience to God is the proof of your love for God. 1 John 2:5 But those who obey God’s word truly show how completely they love him. That is how we know we are living in him.

Matthew 22:36-38. 36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law?

37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

38 This is the first and great commandment.
