  • Where a Home Lives…

Good old common sense is really the foundation for the basic principles of green home.  It does seem that sometimes common sense is not so common.

One of the basic premises of green design is lot and site or rather how the home sits on the land and interacts with it.

Homes, even temporary ones, have some impact and interrelationship with the land they sit on. Today’s episode is dedicated to “lot and site” or where the house is and how it interacts and impacts the land it resides on, or better yet, where a home lives.

  • The Home Detective – Finding How to Get a Home to Perform Well

Gabbing with Kellye Markowski with Energy Smart Homes – a residential and commercial energy audit provider and project management.  We dubbed Kellye the “home detective” during the podcast recording and it seemed to describe what she does perfectly.  When Kellye performs an energy audit on a home, it’s an investigation into the house – the home detective.

Many issues in a home are a call for improving comfort and energy efficiency.  Kellye works to help homeowners/residents reduce their energy and costs and know the best course of action for their house. An energy audit is a whole house approach just like holistic health addresses all of a person’s health.

  • Find Your Home That Enriches Your Life

Kari Klaus of Viva Green Homes, helps to simplify finding a green or eco home for consumers. After Kari did her own eco-renovation, it struck her that there was no real way to market her home with existing real estate sites. And many of the homes that were claiming green, energy-efficient or eco-friendly features had little in the way of proof – a practice known as greenwashing. Solving this bigger issue with sustainability and real estate was what Viva Green Homes sets out do. Viva Green Homes, with its search capabilities and database of green, sustainable and eco-friendly homes offers the place to start a search for a home that performs better.

  • Sustainable America

On the Green Gab with Suzanne Shelton of the Shelton group.  The Shelton Group is one of, if not the leading marketing agency exclusively dedicated to the energy and environmental arena, or sustainability arena.  Greener, more sustainable practices are becoming mainstream.  Their research shows that most people want to be seen as “environmental good guys” and are making buying decisions with this in mind.

People don’t want and shouldn’t have to make trade-offs between extra features and green in homes. “We have figured this out, how to build greener more energy efficient homes without breaking the bank.” And they are beautiful.  Builders are coming around as they see that green homes sell faster and for more money, in addition to making them a “rock star for the planet.”  “Let’s create a better more energy responsible, sustainable America.”
