On June 26, 2020 a heavily armed team of 28 gunmen, allegedly from the Cartel de Jalisco Nueva Generacion (CJNG), ambushed García Harfuch's vehicle in a prestigious neighborhood in Mexico City.
Despite the well-planned attack, García Harfuch survived with only three wounds, while two security officers and an innocent bystander were killed.
