Psalm 1 and Psalm 2 form a powerful entrance into the book of Psalms.

Psalm 1 focuses on the individual.

There are two ways to live:

the way of the righteous
and the way of the wicked.

The righteous person delights in God’s Word and becomes like a well-watered tree.

Psalm 2 widens the view from the individual to the nations.

Kings and rulers rebel against God and His Anointed, but God remains sovereign.

Together the two Psalms teach:

Choose God’s way personally, and trust God’s King when the world around you rebels.

ob 41–42 brings the book of Job to its conclusion.

In chapter 41, God continues showing Job how limited human power really is.

He describes Leviathan—a creature of extraordinary strength that Job cannot control.

The exact identification of Leviathan has been debated, but God’s main point is clear:

If Job cannot control one powerful creature God made, Job certainly cannot stand over the Creator Himself.

Then chapter 42 changes everything.

Job finally responds.

He says:

“I know that You can do everything.”

He admits that he spoke about things he did not fully understand.

Then he says:

“I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear, But now my eye sees You.”

God also rebukes Job’s friends for speaking wrongly about Him.

Job prays for them.

Then God restores Job.

But the lesson is not that every suffering believer will automatically receive double material blessings in this life.

The greater lesson is that God remained sovereign throughout a story Job could not understand.

Job 38–40 is the moment we have been waiting for.

After Job’s questions, his friends’ arguments, and Elihu’s speeches, God speaks.

He answers Job from the whirlwind.

But God does not begin by explaining every detail of Job’s suffering.

Instead, He asks Job questions about creation.

The earth.

The sea.

Light.

Snow.

Stars.

Weather.

Animals.

Life itself.

God’s questions reveal something important:

Job’s knowledge is limited, but God’s wisdom is not.

By chapter 40, Job begins to understand.

He stops arguing and humbles himself before God.

These chapters teach us that we do not need complete knowledge in order to trust a completely wise God.

Job 36–37 brings Elihu’s speech to its conclusion.

Elihu continues defending the greatness, justice, and wisdom of God.

He reminds Job that God is mighty but does not despise people. He speaks of God using correction to turn people away from destruction, but we must remember the lesson Job has already taught us: not every hardship can automatically be labeled punishment for specific sin.

Then Elihu turns toward creation.

Rain.

Clouds.

Lightning.

Thunder.

Snow.

Wind.

Ice.

The changing weather becomes a testimony to God’s power.

Finally Elihu tells Job:

“Stand still and consider the wondrous works of God.”

Job has spent many chapters asking questions.

Now he is being prepared to hear from God Himself.

Job 34–35 continues Elihu’s response.

In chapter 34, Elihu strongly defends the justice of God.

God does not act wickedly.

He does not show favoritism.

He sees every person and every hidden action.

No ruler, wealthy person, or powerful institution stands above Him.

Elihu is right about God’s justice, though he sometimes speaks about Job more harshly and confidently than the situation warrants.

Then chapter 35 addresses another issue.

God is not dependent upon human goodness, nor is He indebted to us because we obey Him.

Our obedience matters greatly, but it does not place God under obligation to give us the life we want.

When God seems silent, Elihu tells Job to place his case before Him and wait.

These chapters teach us that God remains perfectly just, sees what human beings miss, owes no one anything, and can still be trusted when His answer seems delayed.

Job 31–33 marks an important transition.

In chapter 31, Job gives his final defense. He examines his personal purity, honesty, treatment of employees, care for the poor, use of wealth, worship, treatment of enemies, hospitality, and business dealings.

Job is not claiming sinless perfection. He is rejecting the serious accusations his friends have made against him.

Then chapter 32 introduces Elihu, a younger man who has been listening quietly.

He is angry with Job for appearing to justify himself rather than God, and he is angry with Job’s friends because they condemned Job without giving a sound answer.

In chapter 33, Elihu begins explaining that God may speak in ways people fail to recognize. He also introduces the idea of a mediator and a ransom.

These chapters teach us to examine our lives honestly, remain humble even when defending ourselves, listen before speaking, and recognize that God may be working in ways we do not immediately understand.

ob 29–30 places two very different seasons of Job’s life side by side.

In chapter 29, Job remembers the past.

His family was around him.

His life was prosperous.

People respected him.

His words carried influence.

He defended the poor, the widow, and the helpless.

Then chapter 30 describes the painful present.

The respected man is now mocked.

His health is broken.

His relationships have changed.

His nights are filled with pain.

And God seems silent.

Job is living with the painful contrast between “what was” and “what is.”

These chapters teach us to remember God’s past faithfulness without living in the past, to use seasons of influence to serve others, and to keep seeking God when life changes in ways we never expected.

Job 27–28 moves from integrity to wisdom.

In chapter 27, Job refuses to confess sins simply to satisfy his friends. He knows he is not perfect, but he will not admit to accusations he believes are false.

Job also agrees that wickedness ultimately brings judgment. Temporary prosperity does not mean permanent security.

Then chapter 28 asks a deeper question:

“But where can wisdom be found?”

Human beings can dig deep into the earth and discover hidden treasures, but true wisdom cannot be mined, purchased, or manufactured.

God alone knows wisdom perfectly.

The chapter ends with the answer:

“The fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, And to depart from evil is understanding.”

Job 25–26 brings another short exchange between Bildad and Job.

In chapter 25, Bildad emphasizes God’s greatness, holiness, and humanity’s weakness.

His central question is important:

How can a human being be righteous before God?

But Bildad still does not address Job’s actual struggle.

Then Job responds in chapter 26.

He first points out how little help his friends have actually provided.

After that, Job gives a magnificent description of God’s power over creation.

Yet Job concludes that everything humans observe represents only the “mere edges of His ways.”

In other words:

What we understand about God is real—

but it is only a small part of His greatness.

These chapters teach us that humanity desperately needs righteousness before God, that correct truth should actually help hurting people, and that God is infinitely greater than what human beings can fully understand.

Job 22–24 brings another sharp exchange.

In chapter 22, Eliphaz goes beyond suspicion and begins accusing Job of specific sins the text never says Job committed.

In chapter 23, Job longs to find God and present his case. Yet in the middle of feeling unable to find Him, Job says:

“He knows the way that I take; When He has tested me, I shall come forth as gold.”

Then chapter 24 returns to the problem of injustice. Job looks around and sees oppression, poverty, violence, and wrongdoing that do not seem to receive immediate judgment.

These chapters teach us not to invent accusations, to trust God when we cannot trace Him, and to remember that delayed justice is not forgotten justice.
